Fukuoka,

I am happy to share that I have successfully completed the Preparing Future Faculty Program at Kyushu University and received certification in Course Design in Higher Education (CDHE).

This training focused on the fundamentals of designing, structuring, and evaluating university-level courses. It provided valuable experience in aligning learning objectives, assessments, and teaching methods, preparing me for future academic teaching roles.

Throughout this course, I gained a deep appreciation for the complexity involved in designing effective university-level teaching. The combination of theory (such as the science of learning and backward design) and practice (such as micro-teaching and session planning) helped me see teaching as a structured yet flexible process.

What I found most valuable was learning how to connect course objectives with assessment and learning activities, ensuring that students’ understanding is always the focal point. The emphasis on active learning strategies like jigsaw, flipped classroom, and think-pair-share offered me concrete tools that I can now confidently use.

Above all, this course pushed me to reflect on my teaching habits and mindset. It is still a long way to go, but I’m now more aware of how students learn and how I can facilitate that learning effectively. It was a practical, well-organized, and thought-provoking experience, and I’m grateful for the insights I’ve gained.
